Can I keep my Advanced Guestbook entries if I switch to Lazarus?
Yes. Simply copy the database information from the config.inc.php file you will find in your Advanced Guestbook's admin folder to the config.inc.php file you will find in the admin folder of Lazarus.
Then upload the Lazarus folder to your web space. Once uploaded visit install.php in your web browser and select the smartupdate option. The smart update engine will then check your database against the current databse of Lazarus and make any changes required.

Always make a backup of your old files and the database before any changes.

Some characters are not appearing correctly!
This is usually down to a conflict of character sets. This usually happens if you have updated to Lazarus 1.5.1 or greater from an older version of Lazarus or Advanced Guestbook. As of version 1.5.1 Lazarus lets you select the character set (charset) that will be used by the guestbook and in the admin section. The charset can be found in the General Settings section of the admin. The reason some of your characters may be that your entries were posted using one charset but by default Lazarus 1.5.1 uses utf-8 as it's charset. To remedy this simply set the charset in General Settings to whatever your charset was before you upgraded. You can find out your old charset by looking at the first item in your chosen language file (italian.php, spanish.php etc) which can be found in the lang folder.

This problem may also happen if you use the Lazarus include file to put the guestbook into your site and have a different charset on the page you have included the guestbook in and the charset you have set in Lazarus.

How does Lazarus fight spam?
Lazarus fights spam in many ways and I am always refining the current methods as well as devising new ones.
Some of the methods are a time delay before a form is allowed to be submitted. A time limit on how long a form can be used for. CAPTCHA (image verification) on both entries and comments. All of these are optional and can be configured in General Settings.
Lazarus also uses the rel="nofollow" link attribute which most search engines will read and not follow the link.

How can I display adverts in Lazarus?
I was once asked to write a mod so people could put adverts into Lazarus in the middle of the entries. I wrote the mod but you had to redo it everytime update.
So I decided to build the ad block into Lazarus as an option. You will find it at the bottom of the Style section of the admin.
