Emote Editing

So you want to edit your Yahoo! messengers emotes?
Before we start you need to know that an emote is just another name for an emotion.

Right well first thing to do is open up your emote file. This can be located in your Yahoo! messenger folder, usually C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\emote_user.dat.

You will see that Yahoo! has kindly given you an emote to give you an idea as to the format.
This emote is :
Custom\Hey room you can create custom emotions by editing the emote_user.dat file\Hey %s you can create custom emotions by editing the emote_user.dat file

The format for emotes is Emote Name\Emote to self\Emote to user.
Emote name is what the emote will be called and the word used to call it.
Emote to self is an emote thats just posted in the room while an Emote to user is used when you wish to put a users name in the emote.

In the sample emote, which is called Custom, the emote to self would just post -
Hey room you can create custom emotions by editing the emote_user.dat file

While doing the emote at a user would post -
Hey %s you can create custom emotions by editing the emote_user.dat file

Messenger will automatically replace the %s with the selected users name.

I'm not going to go into depth here but I will include an emote_user.dat file I was given by Yazakchat which contains a large amount of emotes for you to use and should give you an idea on the use of colours and different fonts.
