Cerulean has released an update to Trillian 3.1 due to a vulnerability being found in it. You can download the patched version (3.1.6.0) from HERE.
Also Pidgin 2.0.2 has been released to fix "about 100 bugs reported in 2.0.1".

Updated Clients Page

I’ve updated my Yahoo chat clients page as it was seriously out of date. A few of the clients were YCHT only so no longer worked. I have also updated Gaim to show it’s new name, Pidgin. As always if you know of a client that isn’t listed feel free to email me with the details.
New Blog Script & New Web Browser

Due to my previous blog script being ancient and a recent flood of spam comments I have changed to a more modern blog script. It has anti spam so should make my life easier.
On a different note Apple has announced it is releasing it’s Safari web browser for windows. It is currently in beta and is available from apple.com/safari.

Ok so I’m sat at home hungary and can’t be bothered cooking so we order a pizza from Dominos using their website. I sign up and place my order. My adblock flashes to indicate it’s blocked something so I look at the code. On the ‘Thank you’ page they have, at present, six tracking images/links. All of them contain how much you just spent and one even includes your email address. Here is the code (price made up as 99.99)

Their privacy statement says
All data gathered as a result of your visit will be treated as confidential and will not be divulged to a third party without your consent.
but then they say
By submitting personal information you consent to the use of that information as set out below:
By choosing the ‘opt in’ when you register on the Domino’s website you agree that we may use the contact and personal data gathered at your registration to help us improve our products and services or to send marketing related messages from us and/or our approved partners
So they wont give out your information without your consent but by giving them your information you are consenting to them giving it out. Yeah great bit of legalese hidden away there.
My advice is to add the relevant sites to your host file to stop your computer from even connecting to them.
Weird Weird Japanese Video

Ok I just read this story on Engadget. It’s about a video some Japanese company released to demonstrate how Japanese smartphones are better than western ones. Errrrr just watch the video. And as somebody says on the You Tube page. What happens when their battery dies? Can’t even get back in the house to charge it

I found this whilst browsing at work, filehippo.com Update Checker.
Basically you download their little program and run it. It then downloads their list of software and checks to see if you have any of the software they support installed. If you do it then checks the version and informs you if there is a newer version available.

Just recently I’ve been playing with Yahoo answers. If you ask me half the questions are asked by people to stupid/lazy to use a search engine. I just visited there now and the main question on the first page is How often should you change the oil in your car? another is Who sings ‘ I’m a freedom fighter.. here i go’?.
And the moral of the story? If you don’t want to look a total moron learn to use a search engine.
Bristol and Slavery

I live near the city of Bristol here in the UK and recently there has been this spate of wanting to change the names of places because of links with slavery. It started with the rebuilding of the main shopping centre in the city centre. They wanted to rename it from Broadmeads to Merchants Quarter. Apparently people then complained that Merchants Quarter reminded people about the slave trade that Bristol was a major part of and so now it will be called Cabots Circus apparently.
Next they have turned on the Colston Hall which is a concert hall in Bristol. They say that because a large portion of Edward Colston’s wealth was derived from the slave trade we should rename the building.
I want to know what’s next? They going to demand we rename Bristol it’s self as it’s name is synonymous with the slave trade?
I mean I agree slavery was a bad thing and still is (yes it still goes on today). But what they are doing now is trying to eradicate the evidence of it as if that’s going to make things better. It happened people, live with it. If we ignore history we are condemned to repeat it. Ok not likely to happen but you cannot just erase history. History is to be learnt from. All of it, not just the nice parts but the nasty evil parts as well.
