Subject: Spammers using 'Write a Comment'?
Spammers are clicking on the 'Write a Comment' icon on guestbook entries, and then entering HUGH texts.  I am getting about 20 every day entered through this method.

How can I disable the little 'comment' section associated with a guest entry in Lazarus 1.4?

You have two options. Either password protect comments via General Settings or update to 1.6 which has captcha for both entries and comments. Oh and 1.6 also allows you to completely disable comments.

I am using 1.6 - upgraded from advanced guestbook a time a go. Old comments from advanced guestbook are surely "hacked" - just new comments on those old comments. So now I have disabled comments. But still you can see the old ones.
I will also like to inform that when I downloaded the file to upgrade 1.6 - the Zip file had a little surprice when unzipping. A trojan file was included. My Norman Virus Control handled the file - no damage for my PC.

As there is nothing executable in the zip file I don't see how it thinks a trojan got in there. Anyway as of 1.7 if you disable comments or image uploading then they are not shown in the guestbook. So if you disable comments then the comments are not shown in the guestbook.

Shozzy,

Before I got into driver development as my primary focus, I developed security applications such as firewalls, honey-pots, antivirus, etc. I just looked over NORMAN's main page and I have to tell ya. Use a different software. Any program which boasts support for antivirus, personal firewall, antispam, and encryption in a single application more than proves that it's a piece of shit. The old saying stands true to this day "Do one thing and do it well", if you try and make your program support everything under the sun, then your program isn't going to be able to do anything worth a damn. My suggestion is, find specialized applications. Get an antivirus which _ONLY_ detects and removes viruses. Get antispam software that _ONLY_ protects against spam. Etc. Don't look for an all in one solution because you end up with a bunch of false positives and missed baddies.

If you don't want to take my word for it, just look at the Norman website and look at the "Current Virus Threats" list.. it's over 3 months out of date. There are 37 known high risk viruses that _I_ know of that it doesn't protect against, and I've not been in the vx/av scene in over 2 years.

Personally I use Active Virus Shield as my anti virus. Spamihilator as my mail spam filter. Spybot S&D and Spyware Blaster to prevent spyware/malware.

AVS is pretty decent, my nephew uses it. I don't use an anti-virus myself because at any given moment I'm neck deep in the OS so chances would be very minimal that a virus could run without me noticing it.

You mean you don't use an AV as you're always buggering up your computer and having to reformat anyway ;-)

Heh, nah I mean between running SoftICE (and remote debugging using WinDBG), OllyDBG, RegMon, FileMon, ProcMon, Spy++, and a plethora of other system managment tools in the process of debugging/monitoring/analysing/reveng'ing device drivers and the windows operating system; it's very unlikely that even an advanced rootkit (much less something as blatent as a virus) could go un-noticed on my dev machine. Some of the best viruses are memory resident infectors, and even those would stick out like a sore thumb in my day to day routines.
