Subject: The New Board
I like the new board, very clean layout. Just change the favoricon to something custom, I hate seeing sites using default favoricons :p

You got room to talk, looking like a debunked MI6 slacky :p

Mnemonic - Representation of machine code (ie Assembly Language)

so a Mnemonic Generator would be someone who generates Assembly Language code, ie an Asm Coder :)

Just viewed this site in IE and it's not as pretty as in Firefox. Probably explains the stupid attempt at getting people to change browsers on the makers website. It's still good in IE 6 but IE 6 doesn't support some of the CSS used.

IE sucks anyways. If you stuck with support for IE, you're design would be crippled against most others. Microsoft really needs to get the lead out on IE development, or hire me to do it ;)

Yup all you need to do is show you can reuse old code and still leave any well documented exploits in there like IE7.

Honestly, I don't think I'm capable of doing that for anything under $50K/month B-)

OK you two!..  :-) ... having browsed over this forum on and off over the past couple of weeks and on occasion in the past, it's obvious you Carbonize & you Synfire know a thing or two about these PC's and how to make them do as they are told. By trying out suggestions and codes etc I have learnt and now understand a good deal more than I did before I MET you, and I thank you for that.

I have only ever seen / used IE /Windows 95 to XP/ Microsoft Office/ FrontPage, so when you talk about the short comings of IE and talk about Firefox I get a bit lost........... are you saying there is a whole new computer world to explore, and us mere mortals are missing something?....... :-((

When it comes to software there are always alternatives. Free alternatives at that. I do a have list on my main site of free software but I'll list some examples.

Free Microsoft Office replacement - Open Office
Free graphics editors - Paint.NET and GIMP
Free wysiwyg HTML editor (like Frontpage or Dreamweaver) - Nvu
Free web browsers (to be honest all browsers are free) - Firefox or Opera
Free anti virus software - Active Virus Shield or AntiVir. There are others.

Thanks for the speedy response, I will browse around and see what more I can learn……..

I know viruses are a pain and sometimes devastating but, for some two years now I have been using Windows Xp firewall behind a router, I have NO anti virus software running. I have not had a virus since I Uninstalled the anti virus software, in the same way I get far LESS email spam without a spam filter…………. That makes me extremely lucky or could it be that preventative measures attract ?????

I occasionally run SpyBot –Search & Destroy to make sure I haven’t picked up any thing nasty http://www.spybot.info (another freebee)

I’m not recommending others follow my lead as I may be heading for a kick in the proverbials, but for 2 years my PC has been running so well apart from It “hung” once and I had to reset…………….

I run SpywareBlaster to block bad sites as well as Spybots immunisation. I occasionally scan with AdAware. I use Spamihilator as my email spam filter. Because my email address is on many forums I currently get between 10 and 30 spam emails an hour. As to viruses, better safe than sorry. Plus I have kids using this computer.

I take your point and agree ........"better safe than sorry" .....my kids also use this PC, my youngest daughter is 11 and I have a son of 17 (I had to set him up with his own PC to make sure his "browsings" didn't embarass my girls or the wife)............

I have recently set up forums for my sites and they are in their early stages (a couple of months) so I do expect to get a barrage of spam in the not too distant future, I expect I'll have to gear up for that........

I'm the only one that uses this computer, I don't have an antivirus, firewall, or any other form of protection tools. But I do suggest most people have them. I don't use them because, fact is, it would be very unlikely for me to get infected with any malware, and for remote attacks, it would be very unlikely they would go unnoticed. I do a lot of programming, primarily dealing with reverse engineering undocumented API's and opcodes as well as system software development (device drivers and the like). So during the day I know every single thing that's running from ring0 to ring3 on my computer. Malware doesn't stand a chance because I visit the same trusted sites I've visited for many years, and I don't install anything that doesn't come in source form or comes from known trusted source (and gaining my trust is hard).

Sorry for not responding when Carbonize did, but I've been doing some non-computer related stuff lately and I've not really had time to get updated with the forums. Personally, I like Open Office much better than I do Microsoft Office, it's easier to use and has a lot of great features. As far as graphics editors and the like, I splurged there and bought the Macromedia MX tools from a local vendor. Firefox is, imho, the best web browser, but other alternatives Carbonize didn't mention are Netscape and Enigma (enigma is good if you can find a copy).

The best way to deal with spam on your forum is to get a few people to act as moderators. Don't just pick anyone though, pick people you know you can trust not to annoy your visitors. I'm a moderator on quite a few forums, part of my duties includes deleting spam and other such forms of advertisements. It breaks the job up amongst several people, and usually members never even notice the posts were there (since we are also on seperate time zones and there is usually one of us online on each of the forums at any given time).

Good luck with your site and forum project and be sure to stay in touch on this forum as well.

Regards,
Bryant Keller

Synfire, I really appreciate the time and advice that you and Carbonize have given to me and others on this forum, I will take onboard all you have said and I will continue to read posts and where I can submit posts........I see what you mean about the time zones you being across 'The Pond'.......whereas it seems Carbonize are I neighbours, in the same City ( I wonder if he's a 'Gas Head'.......)

Thats a very good point, and if the forums take off I will certainly set up something like it...... 4 of the sites I created and run are for ex crew members of particular Royal Navy Ships one of them www.hms-yarmouth.com has 400 members, the forum is in the early stages with just 16 registered so far but its getting there.... ':)'

Thanks again
Ray
